A particular concern of Forum member Gruff Edwards and other members is the
effect that the ever-expanding world population is having on the Global
environment of which Dacorum is a part. Gruff donates to a charity called
Interact Worldwide (www.interactworldwide.com) which, in the words of their
recent circular:
"works in some of the poorest countries in the world to enable people to
live safer, healthier lives. We believe healthy, sustainable families,
communities and nations can only be built by people with full sexual and
reproductive health rights. Like the right to use condoms to protect
themselves from pregnancy and sexually transmitted infections, the right to
be free from sexual coercion and violence, and the right to basic,
life-saving maternal health care and information."
The accompanying letter includes this telling statistic:
"There is enormous need for family planning and other reproductive health
services - an estimated 137 million women desire contraception, yet cannot
access it. Women's education and empowerment, including the ability to
manage their own fertility, are central to development and poverty
elimination."
